Fashion work is as much about how a material feels as how it looks. Intimate Relationship explores clothing as a sculptural form, using layers to play with concealment and revelation.

What does the audience need to see, hear or feel? The answer might be a film, an interview, a sequence for an installation or a photographic series.

We define the scope around the artist’s or organisation’s intention, the audience and the place the work will be experienced. Playback can lead direction and cinematography or contribute a defined role within your creative team.

04 — PLANNING THE WORK

A few useful
answers.

What was your role on the Somerset House exhibition work?

Roan was the editor for Hennessy: For the Culture, an installation shown within Get Up, Stand Up Now at Somerset House. The project brought together interviews, artist features and archive imagery.

Do you make fashion films as well as photographs?

Yes. The portfolio includes fashion photography for Intimate Relationship, videography at Cyberdog’s London Fashion Week event and cinematography for Middlesex’s fashion show at the Barbican. Each project page identifies Roan’s specific role.

Can you work with footage and archive material we already have?

Yes. Editing can be a standalone part of a project. Start by sharing what material is available, the story you want to tell and how the final work will be presented.

Can photography and filming be planned together?

Yes. We can scope both around the same creative brief, allowing for the different lighting, framing and time each needs. Agreeing the image selection, film outputs and intended uses early helps shape a practical shoot.

Can we start with an idea rather than a finished treatment?

Yes. Share the artist, collection, exhibition or event you are working on, who it needs to reach and the form you have in mind. References, dates, locations and an indicative budget help turn that idea into a production plan.
